Working in his garage, principal investigator
Mikael Fernstrom serendipitously stumbled upon an interesting
discovery: carbon granuals mix with silicone rubber to produce
a material that responds to pressure. This cheap pressure-sensitive
rubber -- quickly dubbed "plubber" -- was used to
form the original pressure sensitive elements ["prexels"]
covering the surface of each Z-Tile. Unfortunately, plubber
prexels proved eradic, and have provisionally been replaced
by a more costly commercial alternative.
