Giuseppe Torre

Giuseppe Torre is composer, multimedia artist and software engineer. He holds a Masters in Discipline of Art Music and Theater (D.A.M.S.) from the University of Palermo in Italy as well as a Master of Science in Music Technology from the University of Limerick (Ireland) and a diploma in classical guitar and music theory from the Conservatory of music of Palermo in Italy. He has been performing as composer and performer around Europe with many bands and in different contests. From 1999 to 2003 he has also been performing with the “12 Guitars Bellini Ensemble” directed by Marco Cappelli in a widely accredited combination of contemporary music and jazz. In 2005, he received an award as composer at the CSound International Festival (EAR’05) – University of Maynooth – Dublin (Ireland) and was also a selected artist for the International EVA 2005 O’clock (Limerick, Ireland), Sonorities 2007 (Belfast) and many other International Art Festival. His interest in improvisation, as well as the influence of academic education has lead his research towards the exploration of the potential of the electronic medium, with particular attention focused on aspects involving live performances, multimedia environments and ad hoc development software tools written in C/C++, Pure Data, Max/Msp, OpenGL and Flash. Since 2005 he has been involved in the Celeritas Project (IDC, Limerick) developing a new wearable wireless sensor unit for live solo/group dance performances and stroke rehabilitation. This research has received numerous publications in specialized journals and has been presented in many international conferences. Currently, he is working towards his PhD at the Interaction Design Centre of the University of Limerick (Ireland) and teaching at the Centre for Computational Musicology and Computer Music of the same University.
