Eileen Healy

Eileen is PhD student candidate with dyslexia and dyscalculia. Her own experiences sparked her interest to learn more about her fellow doctoral students with dyslexia in everyday assistive technology interactions. She is under the supervision of Dr Chris Exton and Dr Mikael Fernström in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems and Interaction Design Centre.

She received a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management degree from IT Sligo and completed a postgraduate certificate in Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Enterprise from UCD Innovation Academy.

Eileen focuses on unpacking how and why assistive technology works or does not work for doctoral students with dyslexia. Her research explores the impacts of real and perceived multidimensional stigmatisation experiences for doctoral students with dyslexia, particularly focusing on assistive technology stigma and stigma-free designs in the circumstances of research work. She uses diverse methodologies, including realist review, realist evaluation, and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and actively supports co-design within her research.
